Position Overview

Cedar Wellness Center is seeking a versatile Medical Assistant who loves taking on a challenge and being part of an aligned, committed team. The ideal candidate demonstrates patience and compassion, especially when patients are at their worst, and maintains a non‑judgmental approach. A kind heart and an organized mind are required. Responsibilities include performing lab draws and preparing lab samples, managing medical supplies and inventory, responding to patient inquiries, maintaining the lab area, and conducting back‑office duties. This role is essential to accurate record keeping in a highly regulated, evidence‑based addiction medicine program. Candidates should be committed to continuous improvement, detail‑oriented, and eager to learn new skills.

Availability to work every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) is required.

Minimum Requirements
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records
  • Active AHA Basic Life Support certification or ability to obtain it
  • Ability to pass drug and background screening
  • Maintains current Washington State Medical Assistant certification

  • Provide patient care under supervision of a provider; delegate medical acts must be directed by a provider
  • Perform patient check‑in, including obtaining and recording vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, brief relevant history, allergies, current medication, and other pertinent information for specific age groups
  • Review medical records for up‑to‑date problem list including patient‑reported medications, allergies, and diagnoses documented by physicians or providers
  • Understand that the stress of illness may alter patient behavior; interact with respect even when patients or families display anger or distress
  • Participate in patient education by providing standardized, structured written/verbal information about procedures, preparation for diagnostic tests, and chronic disease conditions as instructed by the provider
  • Assist provider with procedures requiring aseptic and sterile technique
  • Assist with quality measures, including maintenance and recording of required daily equipment checks, CLIA requirements, and calibration of equipment
  • Document complete and accurate patient observations, care, and outcomes of interventions in the electronic medical record
  • Contribute to individual patient care planning
  • Participate in the review of schedules and space needs; anticipate and suggest changes in staffing or provider schedules
  • Assist with quality improvement projects such as communication of waits and delays, chart audits
  • Assist in updating Medical Assistant training materials and participate in orientation of new staff
  • May float to the Front Office if needed
  • Clean and examine procedure tables, equipment, and other work areas following current infection control and isolation procedure guidelines
  • Stock nurse’s station and exam/procedure rooms as assigned
  • Report non‑functioning or defective equipment to supervisor immediately
  • Ensure all supplies are up to date and replace expired materials following sterile processing procedures
  • Assist in the maintenance of patient education materials
  • Prepare and maintain medical records, including ordering, filing, and copying when appropriate
  • Complete all required competencies and maintain skill level
  • Recognize the need for continuous learning by attending staff development programs and workshops
  • Prepare and maintain urinalysis, oral toxicology swabs, urine drug screen collection schedules and document results in the master file
  • Strong de‑escalation skills with the ability to manage challenging patient interactions calmly and professionally
  • Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Employees in this role must frequently stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to type, handle materials, and reach with hands and arms. Repetitive behaviors such as typing and data entry are common. Lifting or moving up to 25 pounds may be required. Vision and hearing requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Clear speech and hearing are needed to receive and respond to verbal instructions. Work occurs in an office setting with moderate noise. Employees must also analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action.
