Job summary

Saint James Health is actively seeking a compassionate Certified Medical Assistant to join our growing healthcare team. The MA will support providers with patient-centered care across adult, pediatric, women's health, and behavioral health patient populations.

The role combines clinical and administrative duties in a fast-paced Federally Qualified Health Center setting, requiring proficiency in vital signs, POC testing, phlebotomy, and thorough documentation in the patient chart.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current CMA certification (CMA, CCMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Experience using EMR/EHR systems.

Responsibilities

  • Take and record vital signs and patient measurements (BP, height/length, weight, etc.).
  • Perform Point of Care testing and specimen collection as ordered.
  • Process labs and follow up on results per provider directions.
  • Assist with patient intake, charting, and medication reconciliation.
  • Coordinate patient flow and assist with front-desk tasks as needed.

Position Summary

Saint James Health is seeking a compassionate and motivated Certified Medical Assistant to join our growing healthcare team. The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting providers and ensuring patients receive high-quality, patient-centered care. This position provides both clinical and administrative support in a fast-paced Federally Qualified Health Center serving diverse patient populations, including adult, pediatric, women's health, and behavioral health patients.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Daily interaction with patients, families, guardians and coworkers to assist with patient care in adult medicine, pediatric and gynecology.
  • Accurately takes and records vital signs, blood pressure, heights/lengths, weights, head circumferences and abdominal girths.
  • Performs Point of Care testing, to include but not limited to; EKG's, Peak flow measurement, glucose and HgbA1c measurement, urinalysis, urine HCG testing.
  • Performs phlebotomy as ordered by provider, Performs Point of Care rapid flu, strep, RSV, Covid-19 testing as ordered by a provider. Processes hemoccult samples as ordered by a provider.
  • Processes labs, follow-s up on lab results per provider directives.
  • Ensures all documentation is entered into patient chart, per clinical workflows set by SJH.
  • Rooms patient prior to seeing provider by recording the chief complaint, obtains past medical history, family and social histories for provider to review. Performs medication reconciliation for provider to review.
  • Ensures all meaningful use measures are recorded accurately for provider review within scope of position and certification.
  • Coordinates flow of patients, places patients in exam rooms for providers and nurses when ready.
  • Notifies patient and families if wait time is increased.
  • Maintains exam rooms, equipment and toys.
  • Cleans exam room after patient visit, according to SJH Infection Control Policies and Procedures.
  • Follows opening and closing procedures including but not limited to restocking all exam rooms, assisting with the maintaining of stock levels.
  • Performs pre visit planning prior to patient appointment by ensuring all results and medical reports are scanned into the chart for the provider to review during the visit.
  • Calls offices/hospitals/imaging centers for reports.
  • Manage specific EPIC work queues and in-baskets with training.
  • Cross trained to front desk to assist with all other office work including but not limited to, answering telephones, scheduling patients, complete patient registration, fax distribution and submissions, filing and scanning.
  • Collects copayments and account balances.
  • Posts payments and accurately reconciles; prints payment batches.
  • Secures insurance referrals.
  • Ensures insurance eligibility for active coverage.
  • Collects self-pay balances for services rendered based on time-of-service discounted fee schedule.
  • Provides coverage to ensure proper staffing when necessary.
  • Assists providers, licensed nursing staff, and Front-Office Supervisor as needed to help with the daily operations of the clinical setting.

Qualifications
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current National Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Experience using electronic medical records (EMR/EHR systems).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
Preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish and/or Portuguese.
  • Prior experience working in primary care, pediatrics, women's health, or a Federally Qualified Health Center.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
Physical Demands

Work Environment

While in clinic, there may be some exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment. The noise level in the varies from moderate to loud.
