Medical Assistant – Levels 1, 2, 3
The Department of Dermatology is seeking qualified Medical Assistants at Levels 1, 2, and 3. The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Duties include interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, recording information on charts, drawing and collecting blood samples, and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis. This is an onsite position in Miami, FL with variable shifts.
Core Job Functions
- Administers injections and treatments and performs routine laboratory tests.
- Assists in patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps.
- Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.
- Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments & materials to the doctor as directed.
- Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
- Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique.
- Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.
- Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
- Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.
- Escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Qualifications
Medical Assistant 1 (MA 1)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Active national or statewide certifications required.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- No previous experience required.
- Valid HIV/AIDS 2‑hour course completion certificate.
Medical Assistant 2 (MA 2)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Active national or statewide certifications required.
- Minimum of 2 years previous experience.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- Valid HIV/AIDS 2‑hour course completion certificate.
Medical Assistant 3 (MA 3)
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Active national or statewide certifications required.
- Minimum of 4 years previous experience.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- Valid HIV/AIDS 2‑hour course completion certificate.
Candidates must obtain their national certification no more than 12 months from date of hire.
