- Perform patient care duties including organizing patient flow, assisting patients, collecting histories and specimens, performing screenings, assisting with procedures, charting, relaying instructions, and answering calls
- Handle clerical tasks including medical records, lab/X-ray reports, referrals, forms, scheduling, insurance verification, demographics, and chart management
- Set up instruments and equipment, clean exam/procedure rooms and equipment, maintain sterilizer records, order and restock supplies
- Respect and promote patient rights, respond to emergency codes, and report patient or staff problems to the immediate supervisor
- Perform clinical medical assisting duties according to state law, including asepsis, sterilization, vital signs, injections, minor surgery assistance, laboratory procedures, CLIA-waived testing, venipunctures, specimen handling, EKGs, triage, and first aid
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting
- Appropriate certificate indicating a passing grade for a specific specialty when working in a specialty department
- Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of an externship completed in a medical office
- Current experience with electrocardiograms (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary procedures, and injections
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
- Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
- Thorough knowledge of computer information systems
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 25 pounds
- Ability to work in a professional office environment
- Ability to travel primarily locally during the business day, with occasional out-of-area and overnight travel possibly expected
