Job summary

Eastern Iowa Health Center in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our family medicine team. This full-time/part-time role focuses on patient-centered care, collaboration with physicians and nurses, and support across exam rooms and clinical tasks.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Medical Assistant program at an accredited institution required.
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Certification (BLS) required.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants or Registered Medical Assistant Credential from American Medical Technologists.
  • Previous experience in a medical clinic preferred.
  • EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general medical care and select patient care tasks, working with physicians, nurses, and other team members.
  • Provide patient education appropriate for age, diagnosis, and understanding as delegated by RN or Provider.
  • Assist with patient visits, room patients, interview, record vital signs, and document in EMR.
  • Maintain exam rooms clean, stocked with supplies for each visit.
  • Perform selective clinical tests (blood glucose, rapid HIV, influenza, strep); operate equipment safely.
  • Observe, record, and report changes in patients’ condition.
  • Administer medications according to orders; follow six rights.
  • Assist with procedures with pre/post-care and intra-procedural support.
  • Follow infection control standards and aseptic technique.
  • Make follow-up calls as requested by provider.

EIHC is seeking a full-time or part-time Certified Medical Assistant dedicated to serving the needs of our community.
SCHEDULE
Monday through Friday, Limited Saturday Rotation
COMPENSATION
$20.80 to $34.32 hourly depending on experience
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide general medical care and select patient care tasks, working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Provides individualized education to patients and families appropriate for age, diagnosis, and level of understanding as delegated by the RN or Provider
  • Assists providers with patient office visits, including putting patients in rooms, interviewing patients, recording vital signs and entering information in patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Responsible for maintaining exam rooms organized, clean, and stocked with required supplies and equipment for each visit.
  • Performs select clinical tests including, but not limited to; blood glucose, rapid HIV testing, influenza, and strep cultures. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Correctly labels specimens.
  • Observes, records, and reports changes in patients’ condition.
  • Administers medications according to orders from a provider, following the six (6) rights of medication administration. Intravenous therapy is excluded.
  • Assists providers with procedures by providing pre and post-procedural care, participating in theTime Out, and intra-procedural support.
  • Follows standard precautions with all patients for proper infection control; correctly follows medical and surgical aseptic technique when indicated.
  • Make follow up calls as requested by the provider. Direct calls requiring assessment to an RN or Provider.
