Eastern Iowa Health Center in Cedar Rapids, IA is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant for family medicine or pediatrics. The role is full-time or part-time with a salary range of $20.80-$34.32 per hour, depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Completion of Medical Assistant program at an accredited institution.
• Current BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers.
• Current Medical Assistant Certification from the AAMA or RMA credential from AMT.
• Previous experience in a medical clinic and EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide general medical care and select patient care tasks with the team.
• Educate patients and families appropriate for age and diagnosis as delegated by RN/Provider.
• Assist providers with visits; place patients in rooms and record vital signs.
• Maintain exam rooms, stocked with required supplies and equipment.
• Perform clinical tests (blood glucose, rapid HIV, influenza, strep) and label specimens.
• Observe, record, and report changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications per orders; follow six rights; IV therapy not included.
• Assist with procedures and provide pre/post procedural care.
• Follow infection control and aseptic technique standards.
• Make follow-up calls and route urgent assessments to RN/Provider.

EIHC is seeking a full‑time or part‑time Certified Medical Assistant dedicated to serving the needs of our community.

SCHEDULE

Monday through Friday, Limited Saturday Rotation

Compensation

$20.80 to $34.32 hourly depending on experience

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Provide general medical care and select patient care tasks, working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other multidisciplinary team members.
• Provides individualized education to patients and families appropriate for age, diagnosis, and level of understanding as delegated by the RN or Provider
• Assists providers with patient office visits, including putting patients in rooms, interviewing patients, recording vital signs and entering information in patient’s electronic medical record.
• Responsible for maintaining exam rooms organized, clean, and stocked with required supplies and equipment for each visit.
• Performs select clinical tests including, but not limited to; blood glucose, rapid HIV testing, influenza, and strep cultures. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Correctly labels specimens.
• Observes, records, and reports changes in patients’ condition.
• Administers medications according to orders from a provider, following the six (6) rights of medication administration. Intravenous therapy is excluded.
• Assists providers with procedures by providing pre and post‑procedural care, participating in the Time Out, and intra‑procedural support.
• Follows standard precautions with all patients for proper infection control; correctly follows medical and surgical aseptic technique when indicated.
• Make follow up calls as requested by the provider. Direct calls requiring assessment to an RN or Provider.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of Medical Assistant program at an accredited institution required.
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Certification (BLS) required.
• Current Medical Assistant Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants or Registered Medical Assistant Credential from American Medical Technologists.
• Previous experience in a medical clinic preferred.
• EMR experience preferred.
