Job summary

A health service provider in Baltimore is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care through various responsibilities including pre-visit planning, administering medications, and maintaining patient flow. Job description

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the Pre-visit Planning/Huddle process for PCMH compliance.
  • Follow up with lab reports, imaging reports, and patient referrals during pre-visit planning.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, urine samples, pregnancy tests, strep tests, etc., as needed.
  • Assist with control logs (refrigerator temperature monitoring, oxygen tank check), AED checks, glucometer checks, and emergency kit lock checks.
  • Prepare patients for providers based on presenting diagnosis (e.g., HTN patients get BP prior to seeing provider; DM patients get finger sticks, etc.).
  • Handle prescription refill line and electronic prescription requests.
  • Assist with equipment checks and ensure they are in working order (EKG machine, vital sign machine, etc.).
  • Distribute health educational information and resources to patients.
  • Request discharge summaries from all patients discharged from ED, inpatients, or outside office visits.
  • Ensure quality care is delivered efficiently and effectively.
  • Identify and report facility and housekeeping needs; maintain par levels of supplies.
  • Assist providers with routine patient care and procedures, and ensure patients receive clinical summaries after visits.
  • Communicate with patients identifying barriers to care.
  • Collaborate with patients' physicians and the Nurse Manager on all issues related to patient care.
  • Maintain customer service standards continuously.
  • Improve patients’ quality of life through collaboration and follow‑up care.
  • Ensure patient flow is fluid and constant.
  • Ensure supplies are well‑stocked in exam rooms and the central supply area; inventory at least once a week.
  • Perform screening questionnaires when designated: TB, hearing, lead, vision, cholesterol screening, PHQ‑2 and PHQ‑9.
  • Carry out clerical duties: complete and route referrals, make appointments, send abnormal lab letters, ensure providers review charts for follow‑up, and manage no‑show letters.
  • Strictly follow OSHA guidelines in assigned departments and when performing skills.
  • Protect patient confidentiality.
Duties
  • Adhere to the provider template for scheduling appointments.
  • Book appointments for call‑ins and walk‑ins as needed.
  • Alert the Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing about scheduling problems or concerns while maintaining communication between the front and back triage area.
  • Enter all pertinent changes and information into the registration and appointment systems.
  • Maintain a professional, personable demeanor toward patients and co‑workers.
Laboratory Duties
  • Collect blood specimens (capillary, venous, finger and heel sticks), read hematocrits, administer and read tuberculin tests, test urine, perform stains and culture tests with slides, perform EKGs when applicable, and record tests and related forms.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of all work areas, including inventory of lab stocks and monthly maintenance of the autoclave.
  • Log specimen flow in and out of the lab.
  • Handle and process urine tests specific to diagnostic tests.
  • Track anemia, Pap, and lead abnormal lab results via EMR‑Link.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Prefer Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Prefer 1–3 years of Medical Assistant work experience, with ability to perform phlebotomy procedures.
