Essential duties and responsibilitiesPatient care and clinical support
- Greet patients and prepare them for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Obtain and accurately record vital signs, medical histories, and other patient information.
- Assist healthcare providers during examinations and treatments.
- Administer medications and injections as directed by licensed healthcare providers and within the scope of practice.
- Perform specimen collection, basic laboratory procedures, and diagnostic testing.
- Educate patients regarding medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care instructions.
- Maintain patient comfort, privacy, and confidentiality throughout the care process.
Administrative responsibilities
- Schedule patient appointments and coordinate patient flow to maximize efficiency.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential medical records.
- Process insurance forms, referrals, and prior authorizations in a timely manner.
- Answer telephone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and relay messages appropriately.
- Coordinate communication between patients, providers, pharmacies, and other healthcare facilities.
Safety and compliance
- Clean, disinfect, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and examination rooms.
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards, workplace safety policies, and HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain clinical supplies and notify management of inventory needs.
- Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
QualificationsEducation and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and healthcare regulations.
- Ability to accurately obtain and document patient information.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and basic computer applications.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Certifications
- Current Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, or equivalent, as applicable).
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred.
Physical requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and use standard medical office equipment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Work environment
- This position works in a healthcare setting, including physician offices, clinics, or outpatient facilities. The Medical Assistant may have exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids and is required to follow all safety and infection-control protocols.
