Responsibilities

• Greets incoming patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
• Registers patients into the computer system for each encounter with accurate information.
• Verifies insurance benefits and eligibility using verification software or payer websites.
• Initiates front-end collections and informs patients about copayments and payment plans.
• Prepares examination rooms and ensures forms are signed and scanned into the EHR.
• Assists providers with direct patient care and related tasks as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Greetsincoming patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner. Registers patients into the computer system for each encounter by obtainingaccuratedemographic and insurance information. Verifies insurance benefits and eligibility using insurance verification software and/or payer websites. Verifiesidentityof all patients.


• Initiates up front collectionsadvisingpatients of any copay,deductible and deposit amounts. Provides necessary information toself paypatients, includingself paydiscounts, payment plans and referring to Office Manager/Supervisor and/or the Billing Office as needed.


• Ensuresappropriate formsare signed and ifapplicablescanned into the electronic health record (EHR) ina timelyandaccuratemanner. Maintains proficient knowledge of scanning and indexing information for thepatientrecord.


• Courteously and quickly answers incoming phone calls and routes toappropriate personor creates a detailed message in the EHR for practice staff. Appropriately uses telephone and intercomsystem.Adheres to the policy that direct patient care should not be interrupted unless absolutely necessary.


• Ensure patients and patient care areas are prepared for examinations and procedures when needed.


• Assist providers when needed with all aspects of direct patient care with training and demonstrated competency as well as other tasks involved in patient care, such as messages, referrals and scanning.

Qualifications:

LPN

• Must be a licensedLPNin the state of SC

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

• Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, NHA, AMT or NCCT is required.


• CMA must be a graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by the National Healthcare Association, or its successor; by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association, or its successor; by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or its successor; or by any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. The accredited post-secondary medical assisting education program must include courses in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, medical laboratory techniques, and clinical experience.
