Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a compassionate Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join the Altoona Family Medicine team. This full-time position supports exams, treatments, and patient education in a clinic setting.

The CMA will assist physicians, document in the EHR, administer vaccines, and coordinate referrals. Prior outpatient experience and EPIC familiarity are preferred, with standard benefits included in a full-time role.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (certificate/diploma/associate) is required.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through one of the listed certifying bodies is required.
  • Prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with EPIC is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians during patient exams and procedures.
  • Room patients, record histories and vitals, and document in the EHR.
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments per licensure scope.
  • Educate patients on health, medications, and follow-up care.
  • Coordinate referrals and follow-up care for patients.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants (Certificate, diploma, or Associate’s Degree) required.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through one of the following required:
  • National Healthcare Association
  • American Association of Medical Assistants
  • National Center for Competency Testing
  • National Certified Medical Assistant
  • National Association of Health Professionals
  • American Registry of Medical Assistants
  • American Allied Health
  • American Medical Technologists
  • Prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting preferred
  • Familiarity with EPIC a plus!
  • For positions within UnityPoint Clinic, team members may be required to work at or to float to other locations to support optimized staffing
