Overview

Med Techs provide routine assistance care in a manner conducive to the comfort and safety of residents, following Federal, State, and local regulations. They perform duties delegated by the LPN Charge Nurse, Assisted Living Administrator, or other supervisory personnel to maintain the highest quality resident care.

Training & Certification

• 6‑hour Med Tech training course completed and certified in the state.

Key Responsibilities

• Verify level of assistance required per 1823 form/medication assessment and informed consent.
• Maintain all medications ordered by the healthcare provider in locked central storage, ensuring proper labeling per mandated requirements.
• Administer medications, handle PRN orders, and document all medication changes accurately.
• Supervise or assist residents with self‑administration of medications.
• Report emergencies, resident condition changes, accidents, incidents, complaints, and grievances to appropriate staff.
• Ensure timely prescription refills and manage emergency supplies when needed.

Equipment & Materials

• Scales, medication carts, bedside commodes, urinals, radios, shavers, shower chairs, hygiene supplies, special eating utensils, thermometers, walkers, wheelchairs, wrist watches, and other nursing supplies.

Physical Requirements

• Capable of lifting a minimum of forty pounds.
• Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, bending, and carrying of items up to 50 lbs. for short distances.

Work Environment

• Well‑lighted, ventilated areas; may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens and biohazards.
• Dress code: neat, clean, odor‑free grooming and appropriate uniform.

Schedule & Supervision

• Report promptly to the assigned area at the start of each shift.
• Supervisor: LPN Charge Nurse or designated supervisory staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalency (preferred minimum).
• Completion of an approved Med Tech training course and state certification.
• At least six months of experience in a nursing home, hospital, home health agency, or other healthcare facility.

Job Classification

Hourly, non‑exempt; subject to minimum wage and overtime regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
