Requirements of the Certified Home Health Aide

MUST HAVE A VALID NEW JERSEY HOME HEALTH AIDE LICENSE!

Certified Home Health Aides must be detail-oriented, able to follow protocols and rules regarding patient care, and adhere to instructions from healthcare professionals. They should be trustworthy and dependable to ensure patients and their families feel comfortable relying on them.

Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience as a caregiver or Certified Home Health Aide in healthcare settings.
• Valid NJ Licensed Certified Home Health Aide license.
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including booster.
• 2-step PPD test completed within the last 12 months.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English as needed for the job.
• Valid driver’s license and insured automobile.

Responsibilities

Certified Home Health Aides assist patients with daily functions, take vital signs, administer medications under nurse supervision, and record/report health data. They help with dressing, bathing, planning doctor appointments, organizing transportation, and may work hourly or as live-in caregivers.

Additional Duties

• Light housekeeping (dusting, mopping, laundry, etc.)
• Meal preparation and cooking
• Grocery shopping
• Reporting patient health status to nurses
• Teaching self-care skills to patients

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary: $17-20/hour, depending on experience and case.
• Extra pay on weekends.
