Job description

Job Title: Exceptional Teacher

Dept: School Team

Reports To: Academic Dean

FLSA Status: Exempt

Starting Salary: Step Scale

Position Overview: Faculty at STEM Preparatory Academy will be responsible for planning, enacting, and evaluating highly effective and ambitious instruction tailored to students’ needs. The successful applicants will deliver a college preparatory curriculum aligned with the Common Core and Tennessee standards. All teachers are expected to cultivate and sustain the STEM Prep culture of excellence through modeling learning and leadership behaviors for students, colleagues, parents, and the community. Teachers are coached by Academic Deans and report to the Principal or Assistant Principal.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in education or the subject to be taught, with a valid teaching license from the state.
  • Tennessee Teaching License with endorsement in the relevant subject.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.
  • Understanding and commitment to STEM Prep’s mission and values.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Commitment to high academic standards and expectations for all students.
  • Ability to motivate and lead to maximize student performance.
  • Team-oriented with effective communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Support fidelity of Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs), including language goal monitoring and consistent data collection.
  • Implement accommodations for ELL students across content areas.
  • Collaborate with ExEd teachers on service delivery, best practices, and language supports; participate in professional development.
  • Administer the annual WIDA ACCESS assessment for ELL students.
  • Work with families and stakeholders to support language development and academic success of ExEd students; ensure the health of Nashville Newcomer Academy.
  • Plan, deliver, and assess instruction aligned with standards and school goals.
  • Use evidence-based instructional practices tailored to student needs.
  • Reflect on teaching practices and adapt as needed to meet objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with parents and the community to support student learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve shared goals.
  • Foster a motivating, supportive, and innovative classroom culture.
  • Create engaging, inquiry-based learning activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The salary is based on a Step Scale reflecting experience and education.
