Job description

Job Title: ELL Teacher

Dept: High School Team

Reports To: Principal or Assistant Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Overview:

Faculty at STEM Preparatory Academy will be responsible for planning, enacting, and evaluating highly effective and ambitious instruction tailored to students’ needs. The successful applicants will deliver a college preparatory curriculum aligned with Tennessee's academic standards. All teachers are also responsible for cultivating and sustaining the STEM Prep culture of excellence and achievement through modeling learning and leadership behaviors for students, teachers, parents, and community members.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires at least a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • Tennessee Teaching License with an endorsement in the subject to be taught
  • Demonstrated commitment to Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging
  • A commitment to STEM Preparatory Academy and its values; understanding of the school's mission and dedication to fulfilling it

Responsibilities:
  • Support fidelity of Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs), including language goal progress monitoring and consistent data collection across all grade levels
  • Implement ELL accommodations across all content areas
  • Engage with a team of ELL teachers, focusing on quality service delivery, best practices, and content-specific language supports; provide instructional best practices through high-quality professional development
  • Serve as a test administrator for the yearly, state-wide WIDA ACCESS assessment for all English Language Learners
  • Collaborate with families and stakeholders to support the success of ELL students’ language development and content learning
  • Ensure the health and vitality of Nashville Newcomer Academy
  • Plan, deliver, and assess instruction aligned with national and state standards, and STEM Prep goals
  • Enact the college preparatory curriculum using evidence-based practices tailored to students’ needs
  • Reflect on teaching practices and leadership behaviors, adapting methods as needed
  • Develop strong relationships with parents and community members, creating involvement opportunities
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve shared goals
  • Foster a motivating, supportive, and engaging classroom environment
  • Be innovative in instructional approaches
  • Create engaging, inquiry-oriented activities
  • Other duties as assigned

The salary is based on a Step Scale reflecting years of experience and degree.
