Applitrack is seeking a Health Aide / Nurse Assistant to support student health services. Under the direction of District RNs, you will assist with first aid, health records, and medication support, ensuring safety and confidentiality in a school setting.

You will maintain health office operations, assist with screenings, and collaborate with RNs and building staff to support student attendance and well-being.

Qualifications

  • Meet Illinois requirements for the position and maintain any license or certification.
  • Current CPR/AED certification and basic first aid knowledge.
  • Experience with children preferred; pediatric care and school health knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and health professionals.
  • Ability to maintain records, use technology for tasks, and protect confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel between district locations if needed.

Responsabilités

  • I. PROVIDES FIRST AID AND SUPPORT DURING HEALTH CONCERNS BY: responding to illness or injury and giving basic first aid.
  • Immediately refer urgent symptoms to an RN and follow district emergency procedures.
  • Assist with emergency response, gather supplies, and support student supervision as directed.
  • Record health office visits and first aid provided accurately and promptly.
  • Assist with reporting accidents or incidents and replenish supplies as directed.
  • Help organize and report shortages or equipment concerns to the RN.
  • II. SUPPORTS STUDENT HEALTH RECORDS AND COMPLIANCE BY: assist with collection and maintenance of health information.
  • Review records for completeness; follow up as needed with RN supervision.
  • Prepare and maintain paper/electronic health files per district procedures.
  • Distribute health information to authorized staff as directed by the RN.
  • Maintain confidentiality of health information per privacy requirements.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION:

Must meet applicable Illinois certification requirements (at least CNA or CMA) and hold a valid license, permit, or certification required for the position. Current CPR/AED certification and basic first aid knowledge required.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

Regular School Year (181 Days)

REPORTS TO:

Building principal for building-level matters; District Registered Nurses (RNs) for medical direction and supervision.

POSITION PURPOSE:

To support the health, safety, and well-being of students by assisting with the delivery of school health services under the direction, supervision, and delegation of the District Registered Nurses (RNs). The Health Aide / Nurse Assistant helps maintain a safe and responsive health office, supports student attendance and participation in school, and assists with health-related communication and records. The position does not independently assess, diagnose, develop nursing plans, or make nursing decisions; clinical direction and delegation remain with the RNs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Meet applicable Illinois requirements for the position and maintain any required license, permit, or certification.
  • Current CPR/AED certification and knowledge of basic first aid.
  • Experience working with children preferred; knowledge of pediatric care and school health practices preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with students, parents/guardians, staff, and health professionals.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, use technology for job-related tasks, protect confidential information, and work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel between district locations as assigned, if needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. PROVIDES FIRST AID AND SUPPORT DURING HEALTH CONCERNS BY:

  • Responding promptly to student and staff illness or injury and providing basic first aid within the employee's training and assigned responsibilities.
  • Immediately referring urgent, complex, worsening, or otherwise concerning symptoms or injuries to an RN and following the RN's direction and district emergency procedures.
  • Assisting the RN with emergency response, including gathering supplies, contacting designated personnel, and supporting student supervision as directed.
  • Recording health office visits, first aid provided, and other assigned health interventions accurately and promptly.
  • Assisting with the reporting and documentation of bus, playground, classroom, and other accidents or incidents, as directed by the RN or principal.
  • Helping check, organize, and replenish first aid supplies, emergency kits, and other health office equipment; promptly reporting shortages or equipment concerns to the RN.

II. SUPPORTS STUDENT HEALTH RECORDS AND COMPLIANCE BY:

  • Assisting the RN with the collection, entry, organization, and maintenance of student health information, including health histories, physical examination, immunization, dental, and vision records.
  • Reviewing records for completeness as assigned and bringing missing, inconsistent, or potentially urgent information to the RN's attention; compliance determinations and required follow-up remain the RN's responsibility.
  • Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of paper and electronic health files in accordance with district procedures.
  • Helping prepare and distribute health-related information or lists to authorized staff on a need-to-know basis, as directed by the RN.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of student and staff health information and following applicable privacy requirements and district procedures.

III. ADMINISTERS MEDICATIONS AND INDIVIDUAL HEALTH SERVICES BY:

  • Administration of medication and routine health services only when trained, authorized, and specifically assigned, in accordance with provider orders, student health plans, district procedures, and applicable law.
  • Following the RN's instructions for medication storage, documentation, and reporting; promptly notifying the RN of missed doses, errors, refusals, adverse reactions, or other concerns.
  • Maintaining accurate logs of medications or health services provided, as assigned.
  • Supporting students with established health care needs during the school day.
  • Preparing health information and supplies for field trips, outdoor education, and other school activities, as directed.

IV. SUPPORTS SCREENINGS AND HEALTH OFFICE OPERATIONS BY:

  • Assisting the RN with vision and hearing screening activities, including preparation, student flow, documentation, and follow-up tasks as assigned.
  • Helping maintain an orderly, clean, and appropriately supplied health office and notifying the RN of supply or equipment needs.
  • Assisting with ordering and inventorying medical and first aid supplies as directed by the RN.
  • Following infection prevention and control procedures and assisting with related tasks as assigned by the RN.
  • Supporting student health-related attendance follow-up or parent/guardian contact when directed by the RN or building principal.

V. COMMUNICATES AND COLLABORATES BY:

  • Communicating courteously with students, parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other staff regarding routine health office matters within the scope of the position.
  • Contacting parents/guardians to share or obtain health-related information.
  • Sharing student health information with staff only when authorized and necessary to support the student's safety and school participation.
  • Referring questions about symptoms, treatment, medication orders, health plans, or other clinical matters to the RN.
  • Assisting with meetings, student service team activities, or health-related communications as requested by the RN or principal.

VI. MAINTAINS PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT BY:

  • Participating in required district training and job-related professional development.
  • Maintaining required CPR/AED and other position-related certifications.
  • Following district policies, health office procedures, assigned work schedules, and instructions provided by the RNs and building principal.
  • Demonstrating professional conduct, flexibility, reliability, punctuality, and effective teamwork.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the supervising RN or building principal, consistent with the position's qualifications and scope of responsibility.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS

Routine physical activity associated with a school environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear to exchange information; frequently stand and walk; and occasionally sit, climb or balance, bend, stoop, kneel, and perform work involving lifting, pushing, or pulling objects. The position requires close visual acuity for reading, preparing and reviewing records, and using a computer.
