ResponsibilitiesJob SummaryEvaluate and treat individuals with upper quarter conditions due to trauma, disease, or deformity. Use specialized skills to prevent dysfunction, restore or reverse pathology, and improve movement and daily living skills. Develop and progress plans of care to help patients return to their prior level of function. Must be a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) or become certified within one year. Serve as a clinical resource, educator, and role model in hand therapy. Establish good relationships with physicians specializing in upper extremity care. Provide care for patients with repetitive strain, traumatic injuries, neurological issues, or post-surgical rehabilitation.
Essential Functions- Implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans addressing edema, pain, scars, range of motion, wounds, strength, sensation, function, endurance, and posture. Provide instructions to patients and caregivers.
- Evaluate patients under physician referral and establish treatment plans with achievable, functional goals. Serve as a specialist in upper quarter care.
- Document evaluations, treatment notes, plans, progress, discharges, and charges accurately.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team, patients, and families. Clarify treatment plans with physicians and participate in patient visits as needed.
- Delegate tasks to support staff and supervise care delivery.
- Act as an educator and liaison in hand therapy practice. Build relationships with physicians for feedback. Provide educational sessions regionally and nationally. Stay current with hand therapy techniques and compliance standards.
- Mentor hand therapy students and provide clinical experience.
Education- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational or Physical Therapy from an accredited university, approved by APTA or AOTA. - Required
Experience- Minimum 3 years of outpatient orthopedic patient care - Required
- Preferred 5 years in outpatient orthopedics
Licenses and Certifications- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
- Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) - Required
- Current occupational or physical therapy license issued by the AZ State Board - Required
