Job description

**Job Description:**

The purpose of a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) within Intermountain Healthcare Rehabilitation services is to promote the highest level of care for individuals seeking rehabilitation services in upper extremity/quadrant rehabilitation. A CHT is a licensed/practicing OT/PT who has passed a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills/knowledge and achieved national certification. A CHT uses the best evidence to develop both the science and art of their specialty practice. They demonstrate highly specialized skills, translate knowledge into practice, foster clinical growth, and lead evidence-based programs throughout Intermountain Rehabilitation.

**Scope:**

The incumbent evaluates and treats upper extremity injuries, diseases, and disabilities requiring advanced clinical skills, focusing 80% of clinical time on upper extremity (including cervical, shoulder, scapula, elbow, wrist, and/or hand).

**Job Essentials:**

  1. Function as a core clinician with thorough documentation, accurate patient billing, staff management including recruiting, hiring, and evaluations.
  2. Perform advanced patient care, prioritizing signs and symptoms, engaging patients, and considering patient complexities.
  3. Demonstrate clinical expertise and leadership in the department, promoting interdisciplinary care and motivating others.
  4. Communicate with management about program progress, challenges, and strategies.
  5. Possess detailed knowledge of upper extremity anatomy, pathology, physiology, diagnoses, techniques, protocols, and methods.
  6. Apply advanced knowledge to surgery basics and precautions, evidence-based treatment, and proficiency in splinting techniques.
  7. Work to advance expertise and develop an annual plan for activities in care process development, mentoring, education, research, and outreach.

**Care Process Model:**

  • Participate in practice councils and workgroups.
  • Implement new care processes and participate in professional development activities.
  • Engage in quality improvement and clinical outcomes initiatives.

**Mentoring and Consulting:**

  • Serve as a consultative resource and Credentialed Clinical Instructor or Fieldwork Educator.
  • Mentor clinicians and assist in onboarding new staff and those seeking professional growth.
  • Provide consultation, education, and training to other healthcare professionals.

**Education / Research:**

  • Participate in or organize internal conferences, Webex sessions, and external courses.
  • Engage in research, quality improvement, and clinical outcome initiatives.
  • Participate in practice councils and interdisciplinary teams.

**Marketing:**

  • Contribute to system-wide marketing plans involving physicians and programs.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

  • Current State License as a Physical or Occupational Therapist.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Successful achievement and maintenance of hand therapy specialization per HTCC.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of regulatory requirements.

**Physical Requirements:**

Carrying, hearing/listening, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, seeing, speaking, squatting/kneeling, standing, walking.

The hourly rate is $45.32 - $69.94, dependent on experience.
