Certified Group Fitness Instructor Job Description

Job Summary
The Group Fitness Instructor instructs members and guests through a variety of group exercise/fitness formats. The instructor delivers safe and effective exercises, assists participants in achieving fitness goals, and creates a fun group exercise environment for all participants.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Duties
- Inform members and guests of proper safety techniques.
- Welcome all members and guests at the beginning of each class.
- Inform participants of the ability level of the class format being taught.
- Supervise members and guests throughout the class.
- Encourage members and guests to achieve fitness goals by consistent participation.
- Describe and inform members and guests of other class formats offered at Dynamic Fitness.
- Follow all Dynamic Fitness policies and procedures.
Administrative Duties
- Teach scheduled group fitness classes according to the outlined Group Fitness Schedule.
- Initiate and conclude scheduled classes on time.
- Leave the Group Fitness room in order (clean and organized).
- Report any equipment concerns to the Group Fitness Supervisor and to the Operations Manager.
- Attend and be present for instructor trainings and required supervisory meetings.
Promote / Support
- Attend all Group Fitness events as needed to promote the club and class formats and show support toward the company.
Company Relations: The position does not directly manage other employees. The instructor interacts with class participants to ensure exercises and formats are performed safely and also engages with club staff and management.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to deal with a diverse group of people.
- Appropriate communication skills with all age groups.
- Great communication skills.
- Knowledge of appropriate exercise techniques, principles, and formats.
- Ability to effectively teach all skills to participants.
- Ability to follow directions and instructions.
- Maintains a professional demeanor with members and co‑workers.
- Be punctual and possess a can‑do attitude.
- Dress professionally and uphold an appropriate attitude and behavior.
- Be outgoing, enthusiastic, and captivating in front of class participants.
Minimum Certifications / Educational Level
- Possess a current Group Exercise certification or specialized fitness format certification.
- Training (additionally) in specialty formats, where required.
Minimum Experience
- Prior six months of experience facilitating/teaching group exercise classes.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting of light weights, jumping, squatting, walking, hopping, kicking, dancing, cycling.
Compensation: $17.00+
