Job summary

U.S. Pipe Career Center in Bessemer, AL is seeking an Electrician for the 3rd shift to inspect, repair, install, and wire electrical systems and equipment of various voltages in the plant.

The successful candidate will read wiring diagrams, troubleshoot, follow safety procedures, and work on motors, drives, and control panels to support reliability and uptime.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Minimum 3 years electrical work experience or electronics curriculum completion.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and drawings.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical problems.
• Computer experience is desired; PLC experience preferred.
• Able to wire motor control circuits and push-button circuits.

Responsibilities

• Receive wiring diagrams, specs, and instructions for repair, installation, and inspection work.
• Analyze drawings to locate circuits and plan replacements.
• Plan working procedures for efficient job execution.
• Follow safety precautions and properly isolate circuits.
• Determine necessary tools and equipment before starting.
• Apply thorough electrical knowledge to installations and repairs.
• Locate trouble sources by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting operation.
• Dismantle, inspect, repair, adjust, and reassemble motors, generators, breakers, and related equipment.
• Install conduit, fittings, switches, controls, fixtures, and wire equipment for new or replacement facilities.
• Ensure work is performed safely and the workspace is clean and orderly.

Job Description:

U.S. Pipe and Foundry is seeking an Electrician, 3rd shift at our Bessemer, AL location. The successful candidate will play a key role inspecting, repairing, installing, and wiring all electrical apparatus, devices, and circuits, of any voltage in the plant or assigned area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Receives wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection work to be done.
• Analyzes all types of drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and install circuits and equipment to determine material or replacement needs and to select a logical approach to “trouble shooting” and repair problems.
• Plans details of working procedure to affect the most logical approach to the job.
• Considers all safety precautions and the proper isolation of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations.
• Determines necessary tools and equipment.
• Plans and performs work requiring a thorough working knowledge of electrical principles, wiring specification codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment.
• Locates source of trouble of any type of electrical equipment by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operation.
• Dismantles, inspects, repairs, adjusts, or replaces faulty parts and wiring on motors, generators, power distribution and control panels, circuit breakers, rectifiers, electronic devices, etc. Reassembles, tests, and adjusts equipment for safe and proper operation. Performs work on “hot” lines as required. Replaces coils, resistors, rheostats, relays, etc.
• Adjusts contactors, relays, bus rigging, etc. Reconnects terminal leads, panels boards and distribution feeders.
• In emergencies, shunts out defective coils in order to get equipment back in operation. Changes DC motor characteristics by shunting DC coils, etc.
• Installs conduit, fittings, switches, controls, and fixtures, and wires and connects all types of electrical equipment as required for new installations or replacement of facilities. Makes all required splices and connector joints. Adjusts all new equipment for proper operating characteristics.
• Performs all work in a safe and efficient manner and keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition.

Skills & Other Requirements:

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Must have a minimum of 3 years of electrical work experience or successful completion of an electronics curriculum from an accredited program.
• Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and drawings.
• Must have experience trouble shooting and repairing electrical problems.
• Computer experience is desired, previous PLC experience required.
• Must be able to wire motor control circuits and push-button circuits.
