Job summary

Exyte is seeking a Drone Pilot/Reality Capture Specialist to lead aerial data collection and 3D modeling efforts for complex projects in the Dallas area. You will operate drones, perform data processing, and deliver BIM-ready information to support design-build workflows.

You will collaborate with design teams, construction managers, and engineers, ensuring data quality and regulatory compliance while mentoring junior staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of drone piloting experience in construction or design-build contexts.
  • Must hold and maintain a drone pilot license and stay compliant with FAA/local UAV regulations.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and ability to relay technical data clearly.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff is a plus.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and integrating aerial data into design processes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safe, efficient drone flights for capturing aerial imagery, video, and data.
  • Perform pre-flight checks, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of drone equipment.
  • Utilize photogrammetry and LiDAR to create accurate 3D models and point clouds.
  • Process, analyze, and interpret aerial data for BIM and project documentation.
  • Integrate aerial and ground-based survey data into design and construction workflows.
  • Organize, store, and share captured data securely.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure data meets needs and quality standards.
  • Present data and findings in reports, 3D models, and site maps.
  • Stay updated on FAA regulations and local UAV laws.
  • Work with design teams to understand project goals and deliverables.
  • Provide input on innovative uses of drone and reality capture technologies.

Job description

The Drone Pilot/Reality Capture Specialist will leverage advanced drone technology and reality capture techniques to collect, process, and deliver precise aerial imagery and 3D data critical for project planning, design, and construction to ensure project accuracy, efficiency, and high-quality deliverables

Explore your tasks and responsibilities
Drone Operations:
  • Conduct safe, efficient drone flights for capturing aerial imagery, video, and data.
  • Perform pre-flight checks, risk assessments, and comply with all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of drone equipment.
Reality Capture:
  • Utilize photogrammetry and LiDAR technology to create accurate 3D models and point clouds.
  • Process, analyze, and interpret aerial data for use in BIM (Building Information Modeling) and other project documentation.
  • Integrate aerial and ground-based survey data into design and construction workflows.
Data Management:
  • Organize, store, and share captured data in a secure and accessible manner.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure data meets project needs and quality standards.
  • Present data and findings in visual formats, including reports, 3D models, and site maps.
Compliance & Collaboration:
  • Stay updated on FAA regulations and local UAV laws to ensure compliance.
  • Work closely with design teams, construction managers, and engineers to understand project goals and deliverables.
  • Provide input on innovative uses of drone and reality capture technologies to optimize workflows.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Additional certifications in photogrammetry or LiDAR applications (preferred).
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in drone operation and associated software (e.g., DJI Pilot, Pix4D, DroneDeploy).
  • Familiarity with reality capture tools like Leica Cyclone, Autodesk Recap, or similar.
  • Experience with CAD or BIM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) is a plus.
Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience as a licensed drone pilot, preferably in construction or design-build projects.
  • Time management skills, strong work ethic and attention to details
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be a strong team player with an ability to build effective working relationships with individuals, department leads, and client representatives
  • Energetic and self-motivated
  • Ability to mentor and train junior staff
  • Works to build and maintain positive and productive working relationships both internal and external
