Job summary

Petco is seeking a certified dog trainer to enhance pet health and wellness by providing one-on-one and group training, plus personalized guidance on nutrition and essential products. You will engage guests, recommend classes, and deliver holistic pet care solutions.

The role requires passing a 6-week instructor program, maintaining training records, and collaborating with grooming and veterinary teams to support pet parents and dogs. Weekend/evening availability is appreciated.

Qualifications

Passion for animal care, training, and welfare.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with pet parents and provide clear instructions, demonstrations and selling techniques.
Demonstrated ability to handle and work with dogs of all sizes, ages, and breeds in a safe and humane manner.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities.
Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

Attend and pass Petco’s 6-week Dog Trainer Instructor Program.
Complete all Workday Learning modules and DTIP Student Workbook materials.
Recommend and sell appropriate dog training classes, training, and supplies.
Keep accurate records of training sessions and feedback from pet parents.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Work cross-functionally with grooming and veterinary teams.
Complete ongoing training programs to maintain high expertise.
Provide a 360-degree solution by guiding guests in merchandise/services.
Engage guests with recommendations and nurturing their pets’ health and welfare.
Adhere to policies and promote teamwork and collaboration.
Utilize selling behaviors to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Ensure safety and follow store operations.
