Job summary

Cooper University Health Care in Camden, NJ seeks a Critical Care Tech to support patients under the supervision of an RN. The role includes assisting with daily living activities, performing phlebotomy, vital signs, EKGs, and catheter care as directed, while maintaining high professional and safety standards.

Requires 0–2 years of experience, a High School Diploma or GED, and active PCT certification along with BLS. Full-time days with 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. shifts and weekend rotation.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed Patient Care Technician training and hold an active PCT certification.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • One of CPT, CPCT-A, or ACMA certifications acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility).
  • Perform phlebotomy, monitor vital signs, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and Foley catheter care as directed by RN.
  • Identify and communicate changes in patient status to RN, ensuring safe practices.
  • Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety.
  • Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives and clinical improvement activities.
  • Complete required hospital and unit competencies by due dates.
  • Maintain safety protocols and high-quality patient care; communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and coworkers.

Short Description

The Critical Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients’ activities of daily living and supports the overall plan of care. This role involves direct communication with and support for the healthcare team, patients, and their families or significant others. The position requires maintaining high standards of professional ethics and contributing to the delivery of quality patient care within the organization.

  • Support patients’ activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility, transport) and follow standard precautions
  • Perform technical duties as directed by RN (phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care) and document appropriately.
  • Identify and communicate changes in patient status to RN and respond appropriately, maintaining safe patient practices
  • Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety
  • Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives, performance improvement activities, and assist in orienting new hires.
  • Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the required due date.
  • Consistently adhere to safety protocols and quality standards to ensure a safe environment and high-quality patient care
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Capacity to identify and communicate changes in patient status.
Experience Required
  • 0-2 years’ experience required.
Education Requirements
  • High School/GED required.
  • Successful completion of Patient Care Technician training and have an active Patient Care Technician Certification required.
License/Certification Requirements
  • AHA Basic Life Support certification required
  • Successful completion of one of these certifications; CPT, CPCT-A, ACMA
Special Requirements

Full time days, 36 hours a week

Hours: 7a-7:30p with weekend/holidays rotation
