Job summary

Cooper University Health Care in Camden, NJ, seeks a Critical Care Tech to assist with patients’ daily living activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse. You will support the healthcare team, communicate with patients and families, and contribute to delivering high-quality care.

This role requires completing Patient Care Technician training, maintaining active PCT certification, and BLS. Typical shifts are 7PM–7AM with three shifts weekly and every third weekend/holiday rotations.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years experience required.
• High School/GED required; successful completion of Patient Care Technician (PCT) training and active PCT certification.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; CPCT-A certification.
• Communication and ability to interact with patients, families and coworkers.
• Phlebotomy/EKG competency must be completed during orientation.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living and support the overall plan of care.
• Perform phlebotomy, vital signs, point-of-care testing, EKGs and Foley catheter care; document results.
• Identify and communicate changes in patient status to the RN and respond appropriately.
• Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety.
• Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives and orientation of new hires.
• Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the due date.
• Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards to ensure a safe environment.
• Demonstrate effective communication with patients, visitors and coworkers.

Short Description

The Critical Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients’ activities of daily living and supports the overall plan of care. This role involves direct communication with and support for the healthcare team, patients, and their families or significant others. The position requires maintaining high standards of professional ethics and contributing to the delivery of quality patient care within the organization.

• Support patients’ activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility, transport) and follow standard precautions
• Perform technical duties as directed by RN (phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care) and document appropriately.
• Identify and communicate changes in patient status to RN and respond appropriately, maintaining safe patient practices
• Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety
• Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives, performance improvement activities, and assist in orienting new hires.
• Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the required due date.
• Consistently adhere to safety protocols and quality standards to ensure a safe environment and high-quality patient care
• Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
• Capacity to identify and communicate changes in patient status.

Experience Required

• 0-2 years’ experience required.

Education Requirements

• High School/GED required.
• Successful completion of Patient Care Technician training and have an active Patient Care Technician Certification required.

License/Certification Requirements

• AHA Basic Life Support certification required
• Successful completion of one of these certifications: CPCT-A

Special Requirements

• Communication – Ability to communicate with patients, visitors and coworkers
• Successful phlebotomy/EKG competency must be completed during orientation
