Description
The Certified Medical Coder is responsible for coordinating, verifying and coding appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for all surgical procedures within our orthopedic practice in a timely manner.
- Codes surgical procedures performed and diagnosis on charge.
- Verifies and completes charge information in database and produces billing.
- Provides additional information and reports to physicians and staff on appropriate codes.
- Appends modifiers when appropriate.

Knowledge
Performance Requirements
- Knowledge of medical practices and surgical procedures - specifically in orthopedics
- Knowledge of computerized billing, EMR/EPM system. Athena Healthcare experience a plus!
- Knowledge of traditional insurance plans, HMO/PPO’s, Medicare, Medicaid, and Worker’s Comp.
- Knowledge medical terminology and anatomy of the body.
Skills
- Proficient skills in computer programs including spreadsheets.
- Skill in written and verbal communication and customer relations.
Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
- Ability to enter accurate data and examine documents for accuracy.
- Ability to deal courteously with physicians, patients, and staff.
- Ability to read and understand operative reports / chart notes.

Requirements
Education
High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.
Experience
Minimum 2 years billing experience in an orthopedic healthcare setting
Other Requirements
CPC certification
Job Type
Full-time, exempt position. Monday through Friday 8:15 AM to 5 PM.
Work Location
In person at our Palm Beach Gardens location.
