JOB SUMMARY:

The Certified Central Sterile Tech is responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, and storing all gas or steam sterilized items. Responsible for pulling case carts for OR cases per schedule, utilizing preference cards, and ensuring all needed items are present. Responsible for maintaining par levels and stocking for OR. Supports the philosophy and goals of OSS Health.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

Education:

· High School diploma or GED required.

Qualifications:

· At least one year of experience in cleaning, assembling, wrapping and sterilization of surgical equipment/supplies preferred.

· CBSPD or CRCST certification required.

· Must have the ability to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources.

· Must be able to plan and organize work.

· Must have proficient computer skills.

· Must possess professional and effective communication skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • · Maintains instrument sets/trays, ensuring proper items are available and intact.
  • · Disassembles, cleans and disinfects instrumentation and equipment.
  • Restocks implant trays as needed.
  • Assists with reprocessing satellite locationinstrumentation.
  • · Maintains needed records for decontamination area and sterilizers.
  • · Routinely checks for broken, bent or rusted instruments.
  • · Handles instruments and equipment properly to avoid damage and loss.
  • · Assists with keeping surgeons’ preference cards up to date.
  • · Maintains confidentiality of all patient, hospital and physician information.
  • · Utilizes appropriate safety and infection control practices.
  • · Assists with orientation and training of new personnel as assigned.
  • · Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

No direct reports.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be proficient in the English language, both verbally and written, in order to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians, vendors, and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate physical effort when working in patient care environment consisting of standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and stooping. Moderate sitting and keyboarding along with fine and gross motor skills and manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment. Frequently lift up to 25 pounds. Frequently move, push and pull up to 50 pounds when working in the Hospital OR; Frequently move, push and pull up to 30 pounds when working in the ASC. Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Climate controlled environment with occasional periods of being outside. Exposed to blood borne pathogens, odorous chemicals and specimens, toxic chemicals, electrical and mechanical hazards, confused or combative patients, bio-contaminated waste, and unpleasant elements. Subject to stressful situations, long or irregular hours.
