Job summary

City of Santa Fe Springs is seeking a Backflow Technician to maintain, repair, install, survey, and inspect backflow devices in compliance with regulatory requirements. The role operates under the Water Supervisor’s guidance.

The position requires a state backflow certification, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver license, with potential for 24‑month license progression. A strong focus on accurate records and safe water practices is essential.

Qualifications

• Must have High school diploma or GED.
• (2) years of experience in the field; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must have taken a State Approved backflow certification training course and passed both the written and skills test.
• Must be computer literate and possess a valid driver license.
• Must obtain Water Distribution Level III License within 24 months in position.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, repairs, installs, surveys, and inspects backflow devices to regulatory standards.
• Works with supervisor on cross connection control tasks.
• Responds to inquiries on service interruptions and resolves them.
• Maintains records of all tasks performed.
• Installs meters, meter boxes, and service lines as required.
• Diagnoses and repairs water leaks; performs related duties as assigned.
