Job summary

Orthohealthkc is seeking a licensed athletic trainer to provide orthopedic patient care in a clinic and urgent care setting. This FLOAT position supports NKC, Lenexa, and Centerpoint locations, working both independently and with a multidisciplinary team.

You will assess and treat orthopedic conditions, develop care plans, and document in the EHR, with duties spanning pre- to post-operative care under physician supervision.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed by MO and KS state boards.
  • Practice in accordance with applicable laws and agency policies.
  • This is a FLOAT position reporting to three OHKC locations.

Responsibilities

  • May work independently or with a multidisciplinary team to provide patient care and education.
  • Assess, identify diagnoses, and treat orthopedic conditions including pain, mobility issues, and postoperative care.
  • Develop plans of care and evaluate them with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain current orthopedic knowledge and share it with the team.
  • Participate in peer review to ensure competent practice.
  • Mentor and role model for colleagues and students.
  • Maintain clinic standards, cleanliness, and hand hygiene.
  • Document data in the EHR and update medical info and allergies.
  • Assist providers with dressing changes, sutures, splints, and casting.
  • Address patient concerns promptly via in-person visits or telehealth, relaying information to physicians.
  • Assist the surgeon under supervision during pre-, intra-, and post-operative duties.
  • Schedule surgical procedures as directed by physicians.
  • Available to work at all three locations; mileage reimbursed per clinic policy.
  • In-person position; work-from-home requests considered with supervisor approval.

Job description

The professional orthopedic certified athletic trainer is a competent athletic trainer with entry-level educational preparation and certification whose practice focuses on the care of patients with various orthopedic conditions in a clinic and urgent care setting. They must be licensed by MO and KS state and practice in accordance with federal laws and regulations, specific state Certified Athletic Trainer Practice Acts, and position descriptions of their health care agency. This is a FLOAT position that will report to all three locations within OHKC. This includes the NKC, Lenexa and Centerpoint (Independence) locations.

  • May work independently or collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide appropriate, effective, and efficient patient care and education.
  • Is able to assess, identify diagnoses, and treat patient conditions for which orthopedic patients are at risk, to include, but not limited to, pain, impaired physical mobility, self-care deficits, impaired skin integrity, and postoperative complications.
  • Bases clinical judgment and decision making on research and specific orthopedic knowledge.
  • Develops, implements, and continuously evaluates a plan of care that encourages a multidisciplinary team approach to making patient care decisions.
  • Maintains current orthopedic knowledge and shares that knowledge with their team.
  • Participates in peer review to assure competent practice.
  • Serves as a mentor and role model for their colleagues, students, and others.
  • Maintains and promotes clinic standards, needs, and cleanliness, to include but not limited to, hand hygiene, cleaning rooms after every patient, stocking rooms at the end of shift, etc.
  • Rooms patients in a timely manner, collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health and/or situation (vital signs, updating allergies and medication lists, preferred pharmacy, etc), and documents all data appropriately in the EHR.
  • Assists the provider with patient care related tasks such as, but not limited to, dressing changes/removal, suture/staple removal, splinting, and casting.
  • Addresses patient concerns and questions in a timely manner either in person or via telehealth (phone calls and patient portal messages), and relays critical information to the physician for direction and resolution of the patient concerns.
  • Assists the surgeon under direct and indirect supervision throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative duties and procedures at all times.
  • Schedules patient surgical procedures at the direction of the physician.
  • Will be available to work at all 3 locations as necessary, mileage will be reimbursed based on clinic policy.
  • Job is considered an in-person position, requests to work from home will be considered after discussing with your supervisor with the expectation that ATC will remain on call if needed at a clinic location.
