Job summary

Butler County Family YMCA is seeking a part-time Group Exercise Instructor certified to lead aqua classes and other group sessions in Butler, PA. The role involves delivering safe, engaging classes, supporting members’ health goals, and fostering community within the Y.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma, 18+ years old, YMCA or national group fitness certification, current CPR/First Aid/AED, and willingness to complete the Healthy Living Online Certification within 60 days.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; required.
• Minimum age of 18; required.
• YMCA Group Exercise Instructor certification or National certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM); is required.
• Certification in area of expertise; required.
• Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification; required.
• YMCA Healthy Living Online Certification completion within 60 days of hire.
• At least one year of experience teaching group exercise classes; preferred.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
• Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

• Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
• Ask and answer questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
• Maintain working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
• Build effective, authentic relationships with members; help members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Observe and adjust approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
• Celebrate achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being.
• Keep accurate class attendance records.
• Attend all staff meetings and approved trainings as required.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
