Job summary

Butler YMCA in Butler, PA is seeking a Certified Group Exercise Instructor for aqua classes on a regular part-time schedule. The role focuses on leading safe, engaging pool-based workouts and helping members reach health goals.

Candidates should hold a YMCA or national group fitness certification, CPR/First Aid, and complete the YMCA Healthy Living Online Certification within 60 days. Prior class experience and a passion for inclusive, community-centered fitness are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum age of 18 is required.
• Certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., YMCA, ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) is required.
• Certification in area of expertise is required.
• Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification is required.
• YMCA Healthy Living Online Certification completion within 60 days of hire.
• At least one year of experience teaching group exercise classes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
• Ask and answer questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their health goals.
• Maintain working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
• Build effective, authentic relationships with members; help members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Observe and adjust approach to support all participants’ capabilities, health, and culture.
• Celebrate achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being.
• Keep accurate class attendance records.
• Attend all staff meetings and approved trainings as required.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations.
