Job summary

Whelen Engineering in Chester, CT is seeking a Certification Engineer to prepare certification deliverables, lead RTCA (DO-160), ASTM, SAE, and MIL STD work, and coordinate cross-functional activities across departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4-7 years in certification/engineering/quality roles.
  • Strong understanding of certification processes, docs, and compliance.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage moderately complex projects independently.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, execute, and finalize all protocols and deliverables associated with certification work
  • Company focal for RTCA (DO-160), ASTM, SAE, and MIL STD test standards
  • Coordinate all certification activities through proactive communication with impacted departments and personnel
  • Provide guidance on FAA design and production approval holder requirements
  • Oversee certification processes and documentation to ensure compliance with internal standards and applicable regulations
  • Review and evaluate certification procedures, identifying opportunities for improvement and efficiency
  • Ensure accurate documentation and timely completion of certification deliverables
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project timelines and quality objectives
  • Provide guidance and support to team members and stakeholders on certification-related requirements

Education

Bachelor's degree in a related field
4-7 years of experience in certification, engineering, quality, or related function
Strong understanding of certification processes, documentation practices, and compliance standards
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage moderately complex projects independently
