American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is seeking an experienced Certification Auditor (1099) to plan and conduct audits for ABS QE programs, maintain audit independence, and complete audit reports and post-audit activities. The role includes reviewing management system manuals and conducting initial, surveillance, and recertification audits with extensive domestic travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering/technical field or equivalent QA experience.
  • Auditing experience in Quality Control/Quality Assurance, Environmental, Safety & Health.
  • Minimum three years in Health & Safety or risk management roles.
  • Familiarity with system standards and compliance auditing.
  • Lead Auditor course (IRCA or equivalent) completed.
  • Experience with SA 8000, SEDEX, SMETA, CSR is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically.

Job description

This is a 1099 opportunity, needing an experience Certification Auditor. Their primary function is to plan and conduct audits for all ABS QE audit programs as per relevant program requirement, maintain audit independence, and complete the audit report and other required post-audit activities. May also be required to perform any other necessary duties within their experience and capabilities from time to time.

What You Will Do:
  • Review management system manuals and associated documentation for compliance with requirements and applicable codes and/or standards.
  • Plan, schedule and conduct initial, surveillance and re-certification audits.
  • Prepare and maintain audit logs and all other required documentation.
  • Prepare and issue reports and recommendations for certification.
  • Lead introductory and closing meetings at clients facilities.
  • Set high standards to achieve results.
  • Additional program-specific roles and responsibilities defined in each program procedure.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited university, preferably in an engineering/technical discipline, or equivalent quality experience.
  • Previous experience with Quality Control/Quality Assurance/Environmental/Safety & Health related activities including auditing experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of industry experience typically in Health & Safety (risk management) and/or knowledge of labor legislation.
  • Familiarity with appropriate system standards. Competent in the areas to be assessed.
  • Have passed an IRCA or similar Accredited 5-day Social Accountability, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or OHS 18001 Lead Auditor course.
  • 3 years work experience typically in Health & Safety (risk management) and/or knowledge of labor legislation.
  • Previous experience with Social Accountability audits including SA 8000, SEDEX, SMETA, CSR
  • Comfortable with extensive domestic travel

It Would Be Nice If You Had
  • APSCA CSCA status preferred.
Reporting Relationships:

Reports to the Operations / Country / District Manager and has no direct reports.
