Summary: The Wound and Ostomy Nurse (WOCN) functions as an expert consultant to the health care team and collaborates with the clinical staff to provide assessment, treatment recommendations, care and teaching to patients and families with ostomy, wound, continence and skin care issues within the scope of the specialty practice. The Wound and Ostomy Nurse demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and support appropriate to the age of patients served in their specialty, functions as a resource and role model for the staff and participates in the application of evidence-based practice and research in the clinical setting.
