Job summary

NANO Nuclear Energy is seeking a Ceramic Materials Engineer to support the development, analysis, and qualification of SiC and graphite components for HTGR systems. The role involves material selection, characterization, mechanical and thermal performance evaluations, and qualification activities to enable next-generation microreactor technologies.

Ideal candidates bring experience with nuclear graphite, high-temperature materials, irradiation effects, and leadership in materials qualification

Qualifications

Requires 5+ years of engineering experience in materials science or nuclear materials.
Experience with materials testing, characterization, or qualification programs.
Understanding of materials properties and degradation mechanisms in reactor environments.
Ability to analyze data and communicate engineering conclusions.

Responsibilities

Support design, evaluation, and qualification of SiC and graphite components for HTGR systems.
Analyze material properties: thermal conductivity, strength, oxidation resistance, creep, stability.
Assist graphite material selection, procurement specs, and supplier evaluations.
Develop material qualification plans, tests, and technical documentation.
Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, nuclear, and systems teams.
Review literature and industry data on HTGR materials performance.
Prepare engineering calculations, reports, and licensing support docs.
Participate in design reviews and technical discussions.
