Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill five part-time Student Outreach Ambassador positions for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences ( CEOAS ) at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

Ambassadors represent the College at events and programs that support College recruitment & marketing and student services. Ambassadors assist with occasional on- and off campus functions and assist with CEOAS presentations and campus tours. These events and programming typically occur mid-September through mid-June (graduation), so there are not work expectations throughout summer except the week or two before fall term start.

These positions will be responsible for assisting in the promotion of educational activities and opportunities that are available through the College. The students in these positions will rely heavily on their own experience in their major, and in CEOAS and OSU broadly, as well as learning about the wide variety of activities and programs within the College. They will be asked to talk to prospective students and their families, the general public, alumni, and current CEOAS students. These positions will serve as the friendly, informed, and professional representatives of the undergraduate experience in the College. Ambassadors will serve as liaisons for current students, offering community engagement and student perspective.

Ambassador positions provide opportunities for work experience and professional development through improving communication, teamwork, and leadership skills; as recognition as a part of a team of respected student leaders. Incumbents in these positions positively contribute to the overall mission of OSU / CEOAS and will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge of OSU , and CEOAS .

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

  • Must be a College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences major (Climate Science, Geography & Geospatial Science, Geology, Environmental Sciences, or Oceanography) at OSU .
  • Must have attended OSU for at least 3 terms (current in-progress term included), with at least one year remaining at OSU
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking communication skills.
  • Ability to relate and communicate in a professional, positive, and friendly manner
  • Ability to effectively present the positive attributes of Oregon State University, as well as the fields of Environmental Sciences, Geography and Geospatial Science, Geology, Oceanography, or Climate Science.
  • Demonstrable dependability, punctuality, adaptability, and maturity. Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Ability to work in the week prior to fall term start
  • Must be available and eligible to work in Corvallis as a student employee during fall, winter, and spring terms of the academic year (possible exception if doing term abroad and will be able to be in position for more than one year)
  • Ability to listen effectively, be detail-oriented and proactive, and possess problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates self-initiative, self-discipline, self-confidence, and dependability.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule

A flexible work schedule is required. Event, program, and support hours are not consistent from term-to-term or week-to-week. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
