Job summary

Centralia High School is seeking a dedicated Physical Education Teacher to educate and motivate students toward physical fitness, healthy habits, and positive social-emotional development. The role requires delivering engaging PE and health lessons aligned to state and local standards for grades 9–12.

The ideal candidate possesses a Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement, strong communication skills, and a commitment to equity and student success.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and implements a physical education and health program aligned to state and local standards.
  • Delivers daily PE/health lessons and ensures student learning targets are met.
  • Plans developmentally appropriate tasks for grades 9–12.
  • Assesses and guides students on personal skills and progress in PE content development.
  • Integrates social-emotional learning into lessons and maintains safe classroom environment.
  • Supports school/district policies and maintains positive behavior expectations.
  • Collaborates in professional learning communities to improve student learning outcomes.
  • Maintains attendance and accurate grades; communicates with families and staff.
  • Ensures alignment with individual IEPs, 504 plans, and other student plans.
  • Uses classroom technology to enhance instruction and student engagement.
  • Participates in School Improvement Plan activities; attends trainings and meetings.

Job Summary

The physical education teacher's job is to educate and motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness, proper hygiene habits, and effective social and emotional adjustments based upon the known and undiscovered talents of students.

Required Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate and appropriate endorsement
  • Ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness of self and others, listen actively, be patient, incorporate humor/lightheartedness into work, be empathic, possess a growth mindset, and be customer-service oriented
  • Ability to support the District's vision, mission, goals, and culture code including the belief that all students can succeed
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and flexibility to respond to changing student needs
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently and in a team setting, and effectively problem solve
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful experience as a secondary physical education teacher

Essential Functions for this Position
  • Creates and implements a physical education and health program aligned to State and local standards
  • Prepares and presents daily physical education and health lessons ensuring all students meet daily learning targets
  • Prepares developmentally appropriate tasks and assignments for physical education and health content in grades 9-12
  • Facilitates students' assessments of their personal skills, abilities, aptitudes, personal strengths, and weaknesses as they relate to physical education content development
  • Integrates social emotional learnings standards into lessons
  • Creates a safe physical and emotional space for students to engage in rigorous academic learning
  • Actively supports and reinforces school/district policies and procedures
  • Creates a classroom management system aligned to schoolwide approach: 1) Clearly define behavior expectations 2) Consistently communicate and enforce behavior expectations 3) Address breakdowns of expectations privately with students 4) Approach discipline as an opportunity to teach/reinforce expectations with the goal of changing behavior
  • Collaborates in Professional Learning Communities with colleagues to work on the four questions: 1) What do we want students to learn? 2) How do we know they have learned? 3) How will we respond when they have learned? 4) How will we respond when they don’t learn?
  • Records accurate and timely attendance aligned with school/district policies and procedures
  • Maintains accurate and timely grades with the primary purpose of communicating students' progress towards understanding learning targets
  • Maintains timely and professional lines of communication with students, families, staff, and building administration
  • Ensures classroom practices align with students' individual IEPs, 504s, ML Plans, or other specialized plans as appropriate
  • Utilizes the technology in the classroom to enhance instruction and engage students
  • Actively supports all aspects of the School Improvement Plan
  • Attends trainings and meetings as directed or appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned
Salary

$69,209 - $121,361 (Prorated for the 26/27 School Year)depending on experience and qualifications.

Work schedule

1.0 FTE (156 days for the 26-27 school year)
