Job description

Elementary Food Service Worker

Reports To: Food Service Director Location: Jefferson Lincoln

Bargaining Unit: Public School Employees (PSE) FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

The Elementary Food Service Worker assists in cooking and preparing high-quality food items that meet mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel; verifying quantities and specifications of orders; maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition; and assisting assigned food services personnel in food preparation.

Required Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
3. Washington State Food Workers Card
4. Knowledge of basic USDA National School Lunch, School Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program (Snack/Dinner) requirements and nutrient menu standards
5. Skills to prepare food in large quantities, plan menus, operate, care and maintain institutional kitchen equipment, maintain inventory control, and use standard office equipment including a computer
6. Knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes, sanitation principles, and nutritional requirements
7. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness (for self and others), be empathetic, and be customer-service oriented.
8. Ability to support the District’s vision, mission, and goals
9. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff
10. Demonstrated ability to interact with students in a positive manner
11. Demonstrated ability to act independently, responsibly, and efficiently

Essential Functions:

1. Read recipes and/or product directions
2. Estimate food requirements
3. Operate a variety of kitchen utensils to weigh, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, grind, stir, strain, season, and knead food for cooking, serving, and storing.
4. Assist in the preparation of hot and/or cold foods and properly store food utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and spoilage
5. Inspect workstations for compliance with service standards
6. Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment following all Sodexo, District, and Local Health Department regulatory rules and procedures
7. Taste test products when appropriate
8. Set up serving stations with entrées, salad bars, condiments, other food products, and utensils.
9. Provide general stocking duties in service area
10. Serve and replenish food from counters and steam tables and break down stations at the end of meal periods
11. Interact with customers in the serving and cafeteria areas
12. Understand and comply with all USDA, OSPI, and local Health Department policies and procedures
13. Understand and comply with all Sodexo HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) food safety procedures and Centralia School District food safety policies and procedures
14. Comply with all District policies and procedures (including, but not limited to, safety and risk management)
15. Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner
16. Participate in regular safety meetings, safety trainings, and hazard assessments
17. Receive and notate delivered product on delivery log
18. May function as a cashier during serving times for the purpose of maintaining overall food service efficiency and meeting accounting requirements
19. Report equipment malfunctions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in good working order
20. Attend various meetings and/or training sessions for the purpose of sharing information and improving job-related skills/knowledge
21. Work collaboratively with colleagues to complete daily tasks
22. Perform other duties as assigned

Salary: $20.37-$25.06 per hour, depending on experience

Work schedule: 3.0 hours per day (10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.), M-F, 193 days per school year
