Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network in Hazleton is seeking a Central Transporter to provide safe and timely patient transport within the hospital, supporting technologists and maintaining equipment.

This onsite evening shift (12p-8p) with weekends involves lifting patients, moving equipment, cleaning trays, and following safety procedures, with opportunities to grow in a Magnet hospital known for nursing excellence.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Less than 1 year of experience in a distribution center or related field.
• Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

Summary

Under the Central Transport Cost center the Central Transporter provides safe and timely transport for patients through the hospital.

Job Duties

• Assists with lifting, moving, and positioning patients at the technologist’s request
• Transports or moves patients with appropriate awareness of uniqueness of patient, ranging from infant to adult
• Clean and Sterilize Instrument trays using established procedures
• Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment
• Properly clean and maintain Medical Equipment
• Washes stretchers between each patient’s use and places a clean bath blanket on the stretcher

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• Less than 1 year experience in a distribution center or related field
• Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
• Ability to build comprehensive reports and effectively convey information to others.
• Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient’s weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
