Job summary

Kansas City Art Institute seeks a Shop Supervisor to oversee the safe use of the Central Shop and Small Metals facilities for students, staff and faculty. The role maintains tools and machinery, assists patrons with woodworking projects, and creates/edits CNC files.

You will train student workers, implement maintenance schedules, enforce safety protocols in line with OSHA standards, and support demonstrations and classroom instruction while ensuring a high-quality educational environment.

Qualifications

• Experience using and training on woodworking and metalworking equipment.
• Experience across disciplines and in academic environments is preferred.
• Safety/OSHA certifications are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee safe use of shop facilities by students, staff and faculty.
• Maintain tools and machinery; perform preventive maintenance.
• Assist patrons with woodworking projects and CNC file creation/editing.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair specialized equipment.
• Assist faculty with demonstrations and classroom instruction.
• Enforce studio protocols and maintain a safe environment.
• Train and supervise student workers; update maintenance schedules.
