What is a Central Processing Technician?

CPTs play a vital role in preventing infection by cleaning, sterilizing, processing, assembling, storing, and distributing medical instruments. Precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work hands‑on are essential.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Retrieve and process used instruments.
• Disinfect and sterilize instruments using appropriate chemicals.
• Maintain inventory and ensure adequate supply of instruments.
• Collaborate with Surgical Technicians to set instruments for operating rooms.
• Update Surgeons and medical staff on instrument status.

What Makes a Good Technician?

Work Environment:

Typically works alone in the Central Processing Department but may collaborate with Surgical Technicians during operations.

Vaccination Requirement:
