Job summary

Central Plains Steel in Wichita is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Support Specialist to coordinate inbound freight, verify receiving documentation, and maintain MTRs and related records. You will partner with purchasing, warehouse, quality, and production teams to ensure timely deliveries, accurate documentation, and compliance across ERP and document management systems.

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's License - required.
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities - required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with purchasing, warehouse, quality, and production teams.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment - preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems and document management systems - preferred.
  • Knowledge of purchasing, receiving, and inventory control processes - preferred.
  • Familiarity with warehouse operations and inventory reporting - preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate inbound freight activities and shipment tracking.
  • Verify receiving documentation for incoming materials and products.
  • Review and maintain inspection records and Material Test Reports (MTRs) to ensure compliance with customer and quality requirements.
  • Ensure all receiving and certification documentation is complete, accurate, and properly filed.
  • Maintain MTR records and support retrieval of documentation for audits, customer requests, and quality reviews.
  • Monitor and maintain purchase order status to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Follow up with suppliers regarding open orders, backorders, and delivery commitments.
  • Process and track backorder purchase orders and related transactions.
  • Assist in maintaining purchasing records and procurement documentation.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining part records within the GSS system.
  • Support GSS document control processes, including document updates, revisions, and record retention.
  • Maintain accurate master data and purchasing information within company systems.
  • Assist with system updates and data integrity initiatives.
  • Prepare and distribute Warehouse (WHS) reports and other purchasing-related reports.
  • Support month-end and periodic reporting requirements.

Job Function
Receiving & Document Maintenance
  • Coordinate inbound freight activities and shipment tracking.

ERP & Document Management
