Job summary

The Central Ohio Organizer at Working Families Party will help build our grassroots base and organizing operation in Columbus in support of our legislative, policy, and electoral campaigns. The Organizer will help drive a program to recruit, develop, and support members and volunteer leaders to advance the values of the multiracial working class.

This role also identifies and builds alliances with other organizations which can influence decision-makers.

Qualifications

  • Experience doing field organizing (including as a volunteer) at a community organization, at a union and/or on an electoral campaign
  • Ability to train and develop skills of volunteer leaders
  • Belief in leadership development and that growth relies on an individual’s ability to have ownership of important projects and achieve success for themselves
  • Excellent communication, listening, and executive skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Very detail-oriented and ability to multi-task
  • Experience working with a diverse group of volunteers and supporters across all demographics and backgrounds– especially race, gender, and class
  • Experience with organizing tools: Spoke, Slack, Mobilize, and Action Network
  • Familiarity working with VAN

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with individual activists, members, and leaders
  • Organize opportunities for grassroots engagement on issue campaigns and in movement-building work
  • Organize phone banking, text banking, canvassing, and postcarding events for 2026 election cycle
  • Identify volunteer team needs and work with them to recruit members and activists to do that work
  • Suggest engagement strategies to reach out to potential supporters and current volunteers, move them up the WFP ladder of engagement, and deepen their leadership.
  • Manage contact lists and maintain up-to-date records in our database
  • Uses skills to contribute to development of party objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways. takes initiative to meet assigned deliverables and priorities on time?
  • Evaluates changing conditions and suggestions modifications to plans
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Central Ohio Organizer will help build our grassroots base and organizing operation in Columbus in support of our legislative, policy, and electoral campaigns. $50,400 - $64,400 a year

Compensation: The final salary will be determined based on an internal equitable scale that takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description.

Location: Columbus, OH. This is a remote role requiring you to perform some work in person at various locations for meetings and events in the assigned regions. You may need to travel for major events and all staff meetings.

Schedule: The position is full-time and temporary, ending November 19, 2026.

Short-term, temporary positions: WFP is a unionized workplace. This is a short-term, temporary position that is excluded from the bargaining unit. WFP union employees are represented by Workers United affiliated with SEIU and the affiliated Local 1115, Workers United.
