Job summary

Behavioral Health - Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Direct Support/Direct Care professional in Columbus, OH. The position is full-time with a 7:30 am–4:00 pm schedule at 3800 Lacon Rd, Hilliard, OH 43026, and is part of the OCSEA bargaining unit.

The role involves providing mental health services, assisting clients in community transition, and documenting progress. Training provided; weekends/holidays possible; pay steps after four months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (per Ohio rules).
• STNA certification and/or listed on Ohio Nurse Aide Registry for applicable roles.
• Valid driver’s license required if operation of a motor vehicle is involved.

Responsibilities

• Assesses clients progress toward meeting treatment goals and documents progress.
• Observes and monitors behavior and symptoms.
• Provides mental health services and supportive activities for clients in various community settings.
• Assists and trains in direct care to help clients acquire independent living skills for community transition.
• Communicates progress and needs with supervisor and HBSS staff.
• Engages clients, ensures a safe environment, and accompanies clients to activities and services.
• Performs charting and required documentation; attends meetings and trainings.
• Performs miscellaneous duties including light housekeeping and reporting safety concerns.

What You’ll Do At COBH

• Assesses clients progress toward meeting treatment goals & documents same;
• Observes & monitors behavior & symptoms;
• Provides mental health services (e.g. relapse prevention education) & supportive services (e.g., community adjustment activities) for clients residing in various community settings;
• Assists/trains/participates in direct care & supervision to clients to help them identify, understand and acquire & maintain those skills (e.g., independent living skills instruction) necessary for successful community transition from the hospital to the community & maintaining successful adjustment to community living;
• Communicates pertinent information to appropriate supervisor; communicates with fellow Home-Based Support Service (HBSS) staff members in written & oral forms regarding client’s progress, needs, status & activities;
• Engages clients in conversation; provides for a safe environment; accompanies clients as needed to activities, appointments & community-based services; implements appropriate therapeutic precautions;
• Performs charting & required documentation. Attends & participates in meetings & mandated trainings; meets with agencies/individuals as required;
• Performs variety of miscellaneous duties (e.g., light housekeeping in patient areas & living quarters; identifies & reports safety concerns; attends & completes required trainings & educational programs; shops for/with patients for clothing &/or personal belongings; provides clerical support).

Must be able to complete a 4-week training/orientation.

May work weekends and holidays; may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after four months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Additional Information

This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 7 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. This position is located within CSN at 3800 Lacon Rd, Hilliard, OH 43026.

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary. In Department of Developmental Disabilities, must also possess a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence pursuant to Ohio Administrative Code 5123:2-3-01(F) (1) (c). Or in positions at Veteran Services in addition to above must possess STNA certification &/or listed on Ohio Nurse Aide Registry. For positions that require operation of motor vehicle to transport consumers to recreational, educational &/or occupational activities, a valid driver's license is required.
