Job summary

TEKsystems in Honolulu, HI is seeking Central Office Technicians/Installers to support copper, fiber, and transport systems within telecom infrastructure projects. The role requires ability to work independently while maintaining safety and quality.

This permanent, onsite position offers a pay range of $52,000 to $72,800 per year plus benefits including medical, dental, vision, PTO and 401(k). Applicants should have experience with CO MDFs, cross-connects, and equipment mounting.

Qualifications

  • Experience with centralized telecom infrastructure and cabling.
  • Familiarity with copper/fiber deployment in CO environments.
  • Ability to read and trace circuits in CO and MDFs.

Responsibilities

  • Install, remove, and run copper and fiber jumpers in CO MDFs and distribution cabinets.
  • Perform cross-connects and support SONET/WDM configurations and circuit tracing.
  • Decommission jumper removal, fuse pulling, and power-down procedures as needed.
  • Mount equipment in racks, terminate cabling, and configure remote access (OAM&P).
  • Install central office infrastructure including racks, cabinets, and power systems.

Description

Position Overview: Central Office (CO) Technicians / Installers will support telecom infrastructure projects involving copper, fiber, and transport systems. This role requires individuals who can work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installing, removing, and running copper and fiber jumpers within Central Office Main Distribution Frames (CO MDF), building MDFs, and outside plant cabinets for analog and digital POTS lines, DSL services, and special service circuits such as DS0 and DS1, with a large portion of the work involving disconnect activities.
  • Perform cross-connects for DSX1, DSX3, and fiber systems, as well as support SONET and WDM Layer 1 node configurations associated with equipment consolidation efforts. Responsibilities also include tracing and verifying circuit paths (A and Z locations) where records may be inaccurate.
  • Decommissioning activities such as jumper removal, fuse pulling, measuring power consumption, powering down equipment, disconnecting power leads, and occasionally removing line cards or equipment shelves.
  • Mounting and installing equipment in racks or cabinets, running and terminating cabling between racks, and configuring equipment for remote access and management (OAM&P).
  • Installation of central office infrastructure such as relay racks, cabinets, fuse panels, rectifiers, DC power cabling, and battery systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
