• Bachelor's degree in Education or closely related area required.
• Minimum five (5) years of documented, successful classroom teaching or literacy intervention experience at the assigned grade levels (K-3).
• Reading endorsement or comparable advanced preparation in literacy instruction required.
• Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate at level 4 or higher.
• If the Literacy Coaching endorsement is not held at the time of hire, the individual must be eligible for the endorsement and obtain it upon availability.

Title:Literacy Coach (Grades K-3) Pool
The Literacy Coach utilizes data to support teachers and school leaders in developing and improving literacy instruction and learning opportunities for students. Collaborates with administrators and teachers to implement the Georgia Early Literacy Act 2026 through a continuous improvement process that is cohesive, sustainable, intensive, and classroom-focused. The Literacy Coach supports implementation of evidence-based literacy instruction in grades K-3, grounded in the science of reading, including explicit and systematic instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. Provides instructional coaching, professional learning, and technical assistance to improve educator effectiveness and student literacy outcomes, including grade-level reading proficiency by the end of third grade.

Essential Job Duties

• Facilitates structured coaching cycles with teachers that include goal setting, modeling, lesson observation, feedback, reflective discussions, and individualized support to improve literacy instruction and student outcomes.
• Meets regularly with school leadership and teachers to review formative and summative data and make recommendations for instructional adjustments and schoolwide literacy improvement efforts.
• Supports school leadership teams in analyzing literacy data to guide instructional decision-making and intervention planning.
• Supports teachers in identifying and addressing characteristics of dyslexia and significant reading deficiencies through evidence-based instructional practices and intervention support.
• Assists teachers and school leaders in interpreting universal screener and progress-monitoring data to inform literacy instruction and intervention decisions within the MTSS framework.
• Designs and facilitates job-embedded K-3 professional learning focused on evidence-based literacy instruction, structured literacy practices, and effective intervention strategies.
• Supports implementation of the Georgia Early Literacy Act by establishing systematic processes for documenting coaching services and aligning schoolwide literacy systems, resources, and instructional practices.
• Supports educators in addressing grade-specific curriculum requirements through the development and implementation of comprehensive schoolwide literacy plans and evidence-based instructional practices.
• Collaborates with school personnel to support family engagement and communication regarding student literacy development and intervention efforts.
• Delivers side-by-side classroom support, working directly with teachers during instruction to model evidence-based practices, provide real-time feedback, and support lesson implementation aligned to the science of reading. (Minimum 70% per day in accordance with state legislation.)
• Works directly with individual students and small groups of students as time permits, providing explicit, systematic, evidence-based literacy instruction in accordance with state legislation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
