Job summary

HORST Engineering in East Hartford, CT is seeking a Centerless Grinding Set-Up Operator to set up and operate precision grinders, ensuring parts meet all quality standards. This 1st or 2nd shift role requires reading blueprints, traveler sheets, and specifications, with experience on Cincinnati, Royal Master, and Kellenberger grinders.

The position is 100% on-site at our East Hartford plant, with a 15% shift differential on the 2nd shift.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; technical school training a plus.
• 3 years minimum of Centerless Grind experience, set-up and operation.
• Must be able to read and write comments, understand operation sheets/blueprints, specifications and all applicable paperwork.
• Must be able to read and edit CNC programs.

Responsibilities

• Set-ups and completes machining operations from blueprints, travelers, or specs to produce quality parts.
• Verify materials meet specifications and obtain bar stock from staging area.
• Perform complex set-ups for own work or for others.
• Make adjustments to machinery, obtain tooling and programs, and edit as necessary.
• Assist other operators and help train new set-up/operators.

Centerless Grinding Set-Up Operator

Full Time Manual Labor 141 Prestige Park, East Hartford, CT, US

Salary Range: $25.00 To $32.00 Hourly

Sets up and operates a variety of Centerless Grinders to produce high precision component parts that meet all quality standards. Specific equipment may include Cincinnati, Royal Master, and Kellenberger I.D./O.D. CNC Grinding Machines. Processes may include in-feed grinding, thru-feed grinding, O.D Grinding, and/or bar grinding. Familiarity with CNC controls (e.g. Dean, Allen Bradley, Fanuc, etc.) is a plus.

This role is for 1st or 2nd shift. 1st shift is 7am-3:30. 2nd shift is 3:00 - 11:30pm

This role is 100% in office at our plant in East Hartford, CT.

2nd Shift has a 15% shift differential

Major Areas of Responsibility:

• Working from blueprints, operation sheets, travelers or other specifications, set‑ups and completes the machining operations to produce a quality part.
• Checks to make sure that the material to be used meets all specifications. Obtains bar stock or material from staging area.
• Performs complex set‑ups of own work or for others.
• Makes all required adjustments to the machinery. Obtains tooling, gages, inserts and all other equipment needed to complete the set‑up and brings up the program. Edits the program as necessary.
• Assists other Operators or Set‑up/Operators with set‑up or production problems and helps to train other set‑up/operators.
• Ensures that all manufactured parts are in full compliance to quality standards. Performs visual inspections (part relationship to operation sheet/blueprint configuration) on all parts produced and performs actual dimensional verification using measuring instruments as per the guidelines established by the department or the Quality Assurance Department.
• Replaces all worn or damaged tooling as necessary.
• Verifies and record’s actual part count, both prior to and upon completion of all work
• Performs all routine maintenance on the equipment and maintains all fluid levels.
• Keeps the equipment and work area clean and organized.
• Returns excess bar stock or material to the staging area.
• Moves the finished work to an assigned area. Enters all work performed into the database and documents all scrap. Notifies lead person or supervisor of any parts shortages or machining problems/difficulties.
• Notifies leadperson or supervisor of any parts shortages or machining problems/difficulties.
• Packs and washes/preserves parts as needed.
• Performs other machining and assembly operations as needed.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent. Technical school training a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
• Must be able to read and write comments, understand operation sheets/blueprints, specifications and all applicable company/customer paperwork.
• Must be able to read and edit CNC programs.
• 3 years minimum of Centerless Grind experience, set‑up and operation.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to push/pull/carry up to 50 lbs.
