Job Description

Position Summary

Under moderate supervision, the Centerless Grinder Level II efficiently operates a centerless grinder(s) to grind external or internal cylindrical or tapered surfaces of metal workpieces to blueprint specifications.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

1. Operate a centerless grinding machine to produce parts according to specifications and instructions.
2. Dress wheel to obtain proper finish and effective removal of stock.
3. Set guide rail, adjust the wheel to size, and set stop length.
4. Analyze the best grinding method based on work material. Mount grinding wheel and regulating wheel on spindles with wrenches.
5. Position and secure work rest at specified height, using wrenches.
6. Lift and position the workpiece manually or with a hoist and secure it between wheels and on the work rest.
7. Start machines and observe operation. Verify the dimension of the ground work-piece for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and preset gauges.
8. Change worn grinding wheels, using wrenches. May set up automatic work feeding device.
9. Report malfunctioning machines to the Lead or Supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

1. Minimum three years of experience operating centerless grinding machines.
2. Ability to read blueprints in English, inspect parts, and obtain reference information from detail prints.
3. Set guide rail, adjust the wheel to size, and set stop length.
4. Inspect the first article and maintain quality throughout production.
5. Monitor machine operation, lubrication, and coolant levels.
6. Check condition of grinding wheels.
7. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
8. Attention to detail and compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
9. High energy level and flexibility in working hours.
10. Ability to work in a team environment.
11. Basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measurement, and calculation of areas, volumes, and weights.
12. Blueprint reading and interpretation skills for various drawings and specifications.
13. Ability to inspect parts using hand tools and measuring instruments.
14. Ability to identify and prevent defects on die and tools parts.
15. Effective communication skills with team members.

Desired Skills & Education

• Self-motivated with ability to work independently and in teams.
• Ability to interpret written instructions and diagrams.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, handle, reach, talk, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lift/move up to 35 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

• Shift 1: 6:00AM - 2:30PM
• Shift 2: 2:15PM - 10:45PM
