Primary Purpose
Manage retail operations for the assigned department, impacting store associates, merchandise quality, presentation, and customer service. Build strong associate and customer relations, promote a positive culture aligned with Hannaford Strategy, and ensure store conditions involving appearance, security, safety, and food safety are maintained at the highest standards. Accountable for proper control of company assets.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment to retain associates and customers.
- Ensure all quality standards are met.
- Manage department operations according to established practices.
- Maintain department appearance and presentation.
- Hire, train, and develop associates to meet department needs.
- Achieve departmental financial goals.
- Supervise all duties of department associates.
- Provide excellent customer service and role model friendly interactions.
- Delegate tasks effectively and follow up for performance.
- Keep accurate records of production, shrink, sales, and inventory.
- Meet physical requirements of the role, with or without accommodations.
- Recognize accomplishments and provide constructive feedback.
- Treat all coworkers with fairness, dignity, and respect.
- Ensure proper training of department associates by certified trainers.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Develop product knowledge across the department.
- Utilize RF units as needed.
- Organize product loads and assist with inventory management to maximize sales and reduce shrink.
- Conduct performance appraisals according to standards.
- Maintain effective work schedules to meet standards and personal needs.
- Use company tools such as MPP, financial reports, scheduling, and ordering systems.
- Follow operational and merchandising standards to maximize profitability.
- Maintain clear communication within the department and organization.
- Ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, and food safety standards.
- Understand and address causes of inventory shrinkage.
- Be familiar with department manuals and program guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate understanding of store operations and merchandising techniques.
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
- Show organizational skills and willingness to learn multiple tasks.
- Use good judgment in problem-solving, decision-making, and handling disputes.
- Lead and manage associates across multiple departments.
- Require prior department manager experience or equivalent.
- College degree or equivalent preferred.
- Must be certified as a Food Safety Manager or attend training to obtain certification within 90 days.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use computers and communication systems.
- Lift up to 20 lbs regularly and up to 60 lbs occasionally; push/pull up to 40 lbs regularly.
- Meet activity and volume standards.

Salary range: $18.95 - $27.25 per hour.
