Job summary

USO is seeking a Center Operations Coordinator to support the operation and programming at the Eastover Center. The role emphasizes welcoming guests, coordinating events, and maintaining a warm, friendly environment for troops and families.

You will assist with administrative tasks, volunteer management, and cash handling while ensuring safety and operational readiness, often working evenings or weekends as needed in a dynamic, mission-driven setting.

Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of experience in administrative, event management, marketing support or related role; nonprofit or military exposure preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem solving skills; ability to interact with diverse audiences with integrity.
  • Punctual, organized, self-motivated, details oriented and adaptable to changing needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests and orient them to the Center, its offerings and services with high-quality customer service.
  • Assist with opening/closing procedures, key control and safety compliance.
  • Maintain readiness and cleanliness of Center areas and monitor equipment/supplies.
  • Plan and support programs and events on and off installations; ensure volunteer coverage.
  • Communicate Center operations via flyers, social media and the Center website; publish reports as needed.
  • Answer calls, respond to emails, and maintain reports/files/databases.
  • Train and supervise volunteers; process cash or credit card sales.
  • Operate USO vehicle when required; perform back-up duties as needed.

Job description

The Center Operations Coordinator assists in a wide variety of tasks related to operating and maintaining one or more Centers, delivering valuable, fun and creative programs, events and activities at locations surrounding the Center(s). The position also assists in creating and maintaining a clean, warm, inviting and friendly environment for troops and may assist with volunteers, social media communications, and administrative and cash-handling responsibilities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Meet and welcome guests, orient them to the Center, its offerings, amenities, tours, classes, programs and services; provide troops with high quality customer service, including travel advice and complaint resolution.
  • Assist with operational procedures, including opening/closing, key control, Emergency Preparedness Plan compliance, and ensuring safety and security protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain readiness and availability of the Center's activity and lounge areas; maintain cleanliness standards; monitor equipment operability and supply inventory; replenish stock.
  • Help plan and execute programs, activities and events on and off U.S. military installations; ensure volunteer coverage and supplies; support evaluation of USO Center operations.
  • Assist in communicating Center operations and programs through flyers, brochures, posters, local media, and the Center's website; maintain social media channels per USO guidelines.
  • Answer and screen telephone calls; review and respond to email; produce and maintain reports, files and databases.
  • Guide, train, and serve as a resource for volunteers; maintain their service records; process cash or credit card sales.
  • Operate a USO or personal motor vehicle when required.
  • Other duties as assigned, including backfilling for Center Operations Specialists or other positions.
Job Specifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years of experience in administrative, event management, marketing support, retail, customer service, recreation facility or related role; experience in a not-for-profit, military, multicultural or global organization preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem solving skills; ability to interact with USO leadership, the public and military audiences with integrity and professionalism.
  • Must be punctual, organized, self motivated, detail oriented and adaptable to changing needs.
  • Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills.
  • General knowledge of the military community preferred.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment on culturally sensitive subjects; ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  • Basic business knowledge; perform basic math and follow cash/donation handling and reporting procedures.
  • General knowledge of safe food handling and storage practices.
  • Ability to design & format promotional materials (brochures, flyers, posters); print/production process knowledge preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, and social media platforms; familiarity with Digital Cheetah, desktop publishing software and gaming programs preferred.
  • Obtain and maintain credentials for USO Center access (security, background screening, SOFA status, valid driver's license). Valid U.S. passport and foreign driver's license where applicable.
  • Strong advocate of the USO's mission.
Details
  • Location: McCrady Training Center, Eastover, SC (local candidates preferred).
  • Position: Part-time, 29 hours per week.

  • Additional duties may be assigned, including duties in other areas to cover absences or balance workload.
