Job summary

SCI Corp is seeking a cemetery grounds maintenance associate in Wilmington, NC. Duties include lawn care, grave site preparation, setup for services and assisting with interments.

Requires basic tool knowledge and ability to operate equipment under supervision, with focus on safety and client family service. Candidates should have a high school education or equivalent and at least 6 months of relevant experience, plus physical stamina to lift and carry equipment as needed.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent or relevant work experience.
• Minimum 6 months of relevant experience.
• Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment such as shovel, rake, sledge hammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer and leaf blower.
• Ability to measure with devices like tape measure and yard-stick.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods and lift up to 150 with assistance, push/pull up to 300 lbs.
• Good communication with associates, contractor personnel and client families.

Responsibilities

• Cuts grass and maintains lawn, trims around trees and memorial markers.
• Cleans debris and maintains drives and walkways, snow removal as needed.
• Sets up tents and chairs for graveside ceremonies; arranges chapel features.
• Assists with openings and closings for interments and entombments.
• Operates backhoe under supervision to dig graves without damaging surrounding areas.
• Installs grave markers and crypt faces; maintains markers and cemetery features.
• Maintains, services, cleans and stores equipment; performs minor repairs.
• Observes safety rules and complies with OSHA and local regulations.
