Job summary

The City of Rocky Mount is seeking a Cemetery Maintenance Assistant to perform unskilled and semiskilled maintenance in city cemeteries. You will assist with cleaning buildings, grounds and equipment, mowing, edging, pruning, and supporting funeral schedules on weekends.

Workdays are typically 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with weekend standby on a rotation basis. Prior outdoors maintenance experience and NC drivers license are preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Experience with outdoor maintenance work preferred
• Possession of a valid NC driver1s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Ability to operate a farm-style tractor and dump trailer is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in cleaning of cemetery buildings, removing litter and debris and various landscaping activities to keep facilities neat and attractive.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance on equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Promptly respond on weekends to assist in opening and closing graves according to funeral schedules.
• Mow grass, edge curbs, and remove leaves; remove tree limbs and dead trees from cemeteries.
• Operate mowers, blowers, edgers, and weed-eaters.
• Assist with cleaning buildings, grounds and vehicles.
• Assist with pruning shrubs and cutting undergrowth.
• Assist with shoveling dirt.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Assist with routine pickup and delivery of supplies.
